Eating Out - Farfar Pär

IMG_8553

On what supposedly must have been one of the last days of being able to enjoy a meal outdoors in Stockholm we headed for lunch at a new, for me just me, place called Farfar Pär (Grandpa Pär). I found the name to be quite endearing, their website does also look somewhat amateuristic grandpaish, and I thought it would be a neat place to try out.

When we arrived it was late lunchtime but since the place turned out to be the smallest café-restaurant I've ever seen, our only choice was to sit outdoors. Even if it was slightly too windy for complete comfort the sun was shining and it felt rather nice to be able to enjoy one last outdoor-eating-experience of the season.

To be honest the lunch menu, or the cakes on offer, didn't sound or look to promising so we decided on a sandwich each, one might think that for the price of 45 sek they ought to be on the largeish side on the sandwich scale. They turned out to taste great - one egg & caviar, one cottage cheese, tomato, leek both on delicious homemade Swedish kavring (ie black rye bread) -, absolutely delicious in their simplicity, but also to match the size of the café, miniature.

The latte and the juice were really nice, but neither price, size, menu nor the overall ambiance of the place were of any particular liking to me. A return visit is highly unlikely. By the looks of it they will most probably do well even if I won't be a new regular guest or recommend the place. People from different walks of business and life seemed to guest the place for take out meals.

Miniature Foodcafé Farfar Pär is situated at Norr Mälarstrand 64 in Stockholm, open seven days a week, serving breakfast, lunch, coffee, cakes and take away dinners.

I think the place is great. Lovely " Wallenbergare " every friday, and the service is great. It´s like you known the staff for ages.

I'm pleased you've found a favourite place for food, anonymous, that's one of many good things about living in a city -there's always cafés and restaurants for every taste, palate and wallet.
